Wednesday, April 20 - The Longest Day

Well, after a long bus ride last night, and tons of touring today, the powers that be decided we did not need to end our day until we were stuck in a traffic jam in Virginia/Maryland for almost two hours!
But what a day it was! We began the day with a gut-busting breakfast at the always delicious Golden Corral in Fredericksburg, VA. With our stomachs full to our hearts' content, we again boarded the bus to head to our final destination - WASHINGTON, D.C.
We unloaded the bus and headed over to the National Air and Space Museum where several of the members of our group tried out the flight simulator, or, as we like to call it, the Stomach Turner. After spending some quality time learning about our nation's history in aviation, the groups began to disperse and head wherever they desired.
Our groups were buzzing with excitement when we all met up again. Students were raving about the National Museum of Natural History where they saw fossils, dinosaur bones, and the Hope Diamond. They were also excitedly discussing Dorothy's Ruby Slippers, Lincoln's Stovepipe Hat, the original Star-Spangled Banner, and items of military history at the American History Museum.
Our students view priceless pieces of art, found out just how tall the Washington Monument is and why it is two different colors, learned more about Native Americans and their contributions to our country, took great pictures of the Capitol Building and the National Mall, and...
WE ARE WORN OUT!!!
However, we are so excited and we are having a great time. Everyone is safe and happy, and our group continues to grow closer with each passing activity.
Look back for more after tomorrow and what is sure to be an amazing second day in our nation's capital! Good night!!!

  7. Nijel,

Good morning. I can't wait to read about another exciting day. It's windy here and I have seen a few raindrops. Poppi asked about you and your Dad, too. I hope you had a restful night in the room with Mimi (Nijel's grandmother), Rachael and Soline. Until the next time......

    Love Mom (Nijel's Mom) :-)

  13. Good morning Makayla. I am so very proud of you, you have grown into a very lovely young lady. I recall times, when you stated. I'm going to spend the night with one of my friends, but before nightfall, you would call and say I want to come home, but now look at you, in D.C. with your classmates and friends, enjoy your trip, and have a wonderful day. I love you.PA PA.

  15. Dear Esten,

Have another great day! All is well here now - I discovered Dot and Squeakers contructing a motorized vehicle out of sunflower seeds and cage wire, but I took it away and convinced them that they don't need to drive to DC to pick you up. I think they believed me - I'll keep my eye on them just in case. Maybe you can find them a suitable gift of some kind.
    Lots of love,
